Report: Villa set to beat Chelsea and Newcastle to signing on deal until 2026
Aston Villa are reportedly closing in on Lucas Digne, a player also linked with Newcastle United and Chelsea.
According to L’Equipe, the Frenchman will pen a four-and-a-half-year deal with the Villans.
Digne has had a “very hectic” few hours with last-minute bids falling through, added the French outlet.
And barring a late turnaround, Digne will be a Villa player, and is “very excited” to work with Steven Gerrard.
Sky Sports have claimed that both the Magpies and the Blues were also eyeing Digne.
However, it now looks as though Newcastle and Chelsea will lose out to Villa for the talented Frenchman.
Steven Gerrard’s charges have already brought in Philippe Coutinho on loan from Barcelona.
In a separate development, Everton have reportedly enquired about Aston Villa winger Anwar El Ghazi.
Digne has fallen out of favour under Rafa Benitez at Everton, last playing at the start of December.
The Merseyside club have since signed Vitali Mykolenko and Nathan Patterson in the full-back positions.
Digne has over 40 caps for France and has experienced title wins with Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain.
The £25million-rated ace also has 127 appearances for his current club, registering six goals and 20 assists.
