Aston Villa’s latest bid for Emiliano Martinez was worth around £15 million, according to the Daily Mail, with Dean Smith keen to land the Arsenal man before their season-opener.
The Mail reports that Martinez is Villa’s top goalkeeper target. It is suggested that Jed Steer could be in line to start the campaign with Tom Heaton not ready to return from injury.

But it appears that Smith is hoping to add Martinez to his ranks before they face Sheffield United.
The Daily Mail reports that Villa have made a bid of around £15 million for the Gunners man. It is not clear whether Arsenal are willing to let the Argentinian move for that price.

A previous report from the Mail suggested that Mikel Arteta’s men value Martinez at around £20 million. So perhaps an agreement may not be too far away.
It will disappoint a lot of Arsenal fans if Martinez is given the green light to leave. He was superb in Bernd Leno’s absence towards the end of last season.
And, as Villa hope to prove, he appears to have the quality to be number one for many Premier League sides.
And if Villa hope to land Martinez before they take on the Blades, it may not be too long before his future is finally resolved.
