Report: Aston Villa line up £7million bid for Celtic star David Turnbull
Aston Villa are reportedly planning a bid for Celtic midfielder David Turnbull this summer.
According to the Scottish Sun, Premier League club Villa are lining up a £7million swoop for the PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year.
It is explained that Villa boss Dean Smith wants to tap into the Scottish market, something he did so successfully when he signed John McGinn back in 2018, and he’s made a goalscoring midfielder a priority target.
The report states that Turnbull only signed for Celtic last summer in a deal worth £2.7million, but his valuation has risen after being one of the most consistent performers at Parkhead.
Turnbull, who is uncapped by Scotland, has been called up to Steve Clarke’s senior international squad for this summer’s European Championships.
He’s an attacking midfielder that scored nine goals and set up eight assists during 35 appearances in his debut Celtic season.
Turnbull’s stock has risen significantly in the space of a year, and that could soar even higher if he gets the opportunity to impress at Euro 2020 this summer.
From a Villa perspective, £7million for someone of his potential looks a no-brainer.
However, surely Celtic won’t let the 21-year-old leave for that price given his important to them. He’s also still under contract with the Scottish giants until 2024.
