Report: Aston Villa keeper Tom Heaton offered to Liverpool

Tom Heaton is one of the goalkeepers to have been offered to Liverpool, but the Daily Mail reports that the Aston Villa veteran is set for a move elsewhere.

It appears that the Reds are making plans to bolster their options between the sticks this summer. The Daily Mail suggests that Adrian could leave Anfield at the end of the campaign.

The report notes that the Spaniard has been offered a new deal. But they are considering alternative options.

And one of those to have been on their radar has been Heaton. According to the Daily Mail, the 35-year-old had been offered to last year’s Premier League champions.

It is not made clear in the report how the Reds felt about the possibility of signing Heaton. But the Mail does suggest that he is close to sealing a return to Manchester United.

TBR View: Heaton could have been a shrewd signing for Liverpool

Signing a backup for Alisson Becker is not an easy challenge for Liverpool. They are looking for a goalkeeper good enough to be an understudy for one of the world’s best.

But that goalkeeper also needs to be a player content with how little they are going to play.

Heaton – who earns £42,000-a-week, according to Spotrac – may have been a decent signing for the Reds. He did impress for Aston Villa before sustaining the serious injury that prompted Villa to go and get Emi Martinez.

And he had previously been one of the most reliable stoppers in the top flight before his Villa Park switch.

On a free transfer, it could have proved to be a shrewd bit of business. But it appears that the Reds will need to look elsewhere if they need to replace Adrian.
