Report: Aston Villa join Premier League hunt for Mainz starlet Erkan Eyibil
Aston Villa and West Bromwich Albion are the two latest clubs to take an interest in Mainz youngster Erkan Eyibil, according to Turkish Football.
The West Midlands pair will rival Premier League and Super Lig sides for the German midfielder of Turkish descent. Newcastle United and West Ham are two other sides interested, as per a previous report by Turkish Football.
Due to his heritage and his style of play, left-footed playmaker Eyibil has unsurprisingly been compared to Mesut Ozil. The talented teenager operates in attacking midfield and has a remarkable record.
Playing for Mainz’s U19 side in the A-Junioren Bundesliga Sud/Sudwest, Eyibil has struck 15 goals and five assists in just 19 games. Prior to this, the Germany U18 starlet scored 27 and provided 27 assists in 47 games for Mainz’s U17 team.
These figures have not gone unnoticed and now Aston Villa and West Brom want to sign Eyibil. With one year left on his contract, he could be available for a bargain price.
Mainz want to keep him but face a growing battle as Besiktas and Fenerbahce are also in the hunt for the skilful 17-year-old.
Aston Villa will be eager to win the race for Eyibil, who looks to be one for the future. With goal and assist tallies such as these, he could be a first-team player in the near future.
