Report: Aston Villa join Newcastle in race to sign player, not training with first team
Sport Mediaset claim that Aston Villa have joined Newcastle in the race to sign Aaron Ramsey from Juventus this month. The player is set to speak to his club about leaving, given he is not training with the senior side.
Ramsey, 31, has only managed to add five appearances to his Juventus tally this season – clocking up 70 in total since his move from Arsenal in 2019. With the Gunners, Ramsey produced 130 goal involvements in 371 games.
At Juventus, he has scored six goals and laid on six assists in his 70 outings. His form is miles below what those of a Wales and Arsenal persuasion have come to expect – and he has now entered the last 18 months of his contract.
Sport Mediaset report that Ramsey is not currently training with Juve’s first team. He has failed to so for a while. Talks with the club about a January exit are scheduled, with the report claiming Villa and Newcastle are keen.
Villa and Newcastle eye Ramsey: Which move is best for Juventus ace?
Villa certainly need some added creativity from midfield. Steven Gerrard is known to be a fan of the Wales international. That could be driving Villa’s interest in the ex-Cardiff City star.
Newcastle also need something from midfield. Experienced Premier League stars could be the order of the day for Newcastle, to get Eddie Howe’s side out of trouble – Kieran Trippier, for example. Ramsey benefits both sides.
