The Reading Chronicle have claimed that Aston Villa could join the race to sign Reading midfielder John Swift as a low-cost replacement for Jack Grealish – with Leeds United and Sheffield United previously interested.
Swift, 25, has enjoyed another excellent campaign in Reading colours despite the Royals managing a somewhat mediocre 14th place in the Championship. He scored six goals and created an impressive 11 assists.
That has seen The Reading Chronicle claim that Leeds and Sheffield United are both interested in signing the former Chelsea youth player – who has 13 England Under-21 caps to his name. He has two years remaining on his contract.
Sheffield United are said to have tabled an offer, worth an initial £3.5million as per Berkshire Live. But it might not be as clear cut as that, with Aston Villa now said to have joined Leeds and Sheffield United in the race for Swift.
TBR’s view – Which club is the best move for Swift?
With Grealish likely to leave Villa, moving to Villa Park would be a good move for Swift but realistically – is he going to be Grealish’s replacement? Villa are likely to spend big on his replacement.
Yes, Swift would get game time – more so than he would at Sheffield United. But it could be Leeds where Swift finds his best possible move. Leeds need a player alongside Mateusz Klich in midfield, and Swift is ideal.
