Aston Villa have surprisingly been linked with a move for Watford’s Ismaila Sarr.
France Football claim the Midlands club have recently joined the race for the Senegal international, who is also said by the publication to have an agreement to join Liverpool for around £35 million.
Sarr joined the Hornets last year from Rennes for a reported fee of £25 million (BBC Sport) and made 30 appearances in all competitions in 2019/20.
The lively 22-year-old scored six goals and also contributed six assists in his first season at Vicarage Road.
France Football go as far as to say Villa are ready to outbid the Reds for Sarr, who caught the eye especially after hitting two goals against Liverpool to help condemn the eventual champions to their first league defeat of the season back in February.
Villa’s supposed interest is certainly eyebrow-raising.
The club have just added two attackers to their squad, with right-winger Bertrand Traore following recent club-record signing Ollie Watkins to Villa Park.
With the Milot Rashica saga seemingly not making any headway though, perhaps there may be something in the claim.
TBR’s View – Sarr would be statement of intent by Villa
Villa signing Sarr on top of Watkins and Traore would be a huge statement by the club.
Having narrowly avoided relegation in 2019/20, the goal is to kick on massively in 2020/21 and perhaps finish more towards the middle of the table.
Sarr showed on several occasions last term that he is an exciting young player with frightening pace and mazy dribbling.
If he was added to Villa’s frontline with Jack Grealish operating as a ‘number 8’, there is surely no way Dean Smith’s side would be threatened by any relegation battle this season.
