Aston Villa are reportedly interested in centre-forward Borja Baston at Championship side Swansea City.

According to Wales Online, Dean Smith’s team are lining up a move for the 27-year-old and have expressed an interest in him.

It is understood that the Midlands club would only be able to try negotiate a permanent deal this January, as they already have two loan players in their squad and that’s the maximum.

The striker has scored six goals in 21 games across all competitions this season for the Swans, but has lost his starting position in the past month after a great individual start to the campaign.

His current deal at the Liberty Stadium expires in the summer and it’s unclear on if Swansea would open to letting him leave.

TBR’s View:

Baston definitely looks like a panic target for Villa in the final stages of deadline day and he’s one they should avoid, especially as they would have to sign him permanently.

He managed one goal during his 18 previous career appearances in the Premier League and it would be a big step up for the Spaniard.

Villa clearly want one more body in through the doors though, with youngster Keinan Davis and new signing Mbwana Samatta the only two recognised forwards in the squad.
