Aston Villa are reportedly interested in Southampton defender Jack Stephens.
Dean Smith is apparently keen to raid the Saints once again, having just completed a deal for full-back Matt Targett for around £15 million, according to The Mirror (print edition, page 49).

Villa are in need of defensive reinforcements with Tyrone Mings and Axel Tuanzebe having both returned to their parent clubs.
Both could yet return to Villa Park ahead of their return to Premier League action, but it is understandable that Smith would be looking at alternatives.
Stephens, who made 24 appearances last term, has emerged as a capable top-flight defender over the last couple of years.
With three years remaining on his contract, Villa might have their work cut out over the 25-year-old.
TBR’s view
Stephens has gotten regular football at St. Mary’s Stadium since finishing his last loan move Coventry City in 2016.
Villa surely face a tall order trying to sign the former England U21 international, who is a valued member of Ralph Hasenhuttl’s squad.

The £48,000-a-week star (Spotrac) would be a solid addition at Villa Park though, and he still has a few years before he reaches his peak.
The Targett deal will likely make any move difficult though, so Villa will have to put forth a good offer if they’re to sign their second Saints star of the summer.
