Aston Villa are interested in Arsenal defender Rob Holding amid doubts that Diego Carlos will feature again this season for Steven Gerrard’s side, according to a report from Estadio Deportivo.
Carlos came off during their 2-1 victory over Everton at the weekend. Initially, there were concerns that the centre-back would not feature again this year. But it appears that the situation is even more severe.

The summer signing is unlikely to play again during the current campaign. And with that, Villa are now looking to sign another centre-back before the transfer window closes.
And according to Estadio Deportivo, Holding is one player on the club’s radar.

Holding is in a difficult position at Arsenal. The 26-year-old has not featured for the Gunners in the Premier League this term, remaining on the bench in both of their victories against Crystal Palace and Leicester.
However, he is clearly a player Mikel Arteta admirers. He is a leader amongst the Arsenal squad, and a decent backup for their centre-backs. So you would imagine that the club would be reluctant to lose him.
Aston Villa interested in Holding
For some supporters, Holding would be an underwhelming replacement for Carlos. He has never been the kind of player who has been the first name on the team sheet.
But he would be a decent signing in the circumstances. Mikel Arteta has previously labelled Holding ‘incredible‘. And he is arguably someone Steven Gerrard could rely on to come in with a superb attitude. Jack Wilshere has previously noted that how aggressive he tends to be in training.
Holding meanwhile, may have a major say on whether he leaves if Villa come calling. He may relish the chance to play more regularly at this stage of his career.
Having said that, you would imagine that he would struggle to leave Arsenal after such a long spell with the club.
