Aston Villa are reportedly looking at Manchester United’s defender Diogo Dalot as a potential transfer target this summer.

According to the Daily Star, Dean Smith’s side are eyeing the right-back as a new recruit, as well as his Man United teammate in the shape of goalkeeper Sergio Romero.

The report explains that the two players are being considered by Villa, amid Man United’s interest in their club captain Jack Grealish in a £75million transfer.

Dalot, 21, moved to Old Trafford two years ago for £19million (Sky Sports) and he’s put in some real promising performances so far in 34 first-team appearances, but he now finds himself stuck behind Englishman Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the pecking order.

The Portuguese full-back is brilliant going forward in the final third and is still a youngster with so much potential, so it’s easy to see why Villa would take an interest in him.

Meanwhile, 33-year-old goalkeeper Romero is the number one for Argentina on the international stage and is a quality performer, but again is the understudy to first-choice shot-stopper David De Gea.

TBR’s View:

Dalot and Romero are two individuals that would most likely improve the Villa XI if they joined for the new season, but unfortunately at the cost of losing Grealish it may not be worth it.

Grealish, 24, was the driving force behind Villa staying in the Premier League last season despite flirting close with relegation and he’s by far their most talented individual, something that was unfortunately overlooked recently when it came to England’s squad selection.

The attacking midfielder is the player in the dressing room that lifts others around him and so often bailed his team out of trouble last year, which is why replacing someone like him would be an impossible task.

It would be great for the Midlands club to improve at the back with fresh faces such as Dalot arriving through the door, but they should do what they can to convince Grealish to stay.
