Portuguese website A Bola have claimed that Aston Villa are interested in raiding Benfica for left-winger Franco Cervi this summer – with the Midlands club potentially looking to bring in a replacement for Jack Grealish.
Cervi, 26, has been a mainstay in the Benfica side since joining the club in the summer of 2016 from Argentine outfit San Lorenzo. In his four years at Benfica, he has clocked up 151 appearances in all competitions.
Benfica are expected to be active in the transfer market and recently announced three new signings in one go – in the form of Jan Vertonghen, Luca Waldschmidt and Everton Soares. Now, they may let some go.
Argentina international Cervi could be allowed to leave this summer and Villa are considering a move to bring him to England. Besiktas and Alanyaspor are keen, while Football Whispers say he has an exit clause of £54million.
TBR’s view – Cervi a good player, but some way behind Grealish
Cervi boasts flair, the ability to score and create goals at the highest level and even has four Argentina caps to his name. But is he good enough to replace Grealish, if the Villa skipper departed? Probably not.
Though it must be considered that the chances Villa have of bringing in a player as good as Grealish is unlikely – even if they rake in a fee in the region of £60million. Cervi would be a good signing, but is far from Grealish standard.
