Aston Villa are reportedly chasing a deal to try sign Marseille midfielder Morgan Sanson this month.

According to BBC Sport, Dean Smith’s side have made contact to French club Marseille about their 26-year-old star.

It is understood that Villa have entered discussions about a potential deal during this January transfer window and talks could progress this month.

The report adds that Marseille are willing to grant his exit for around £15million, as his sale could help raise funds for them to conduct their own January business.

Sanson has spent his entire career so far in homeland France, but has been linked throughout his career with a move to English football.

He is an all-action central midfielder that is technically sound and defensively astute, plus this season he’s chipped in with two goals and three assists in 18 Marseille appearances.

TBR’s View:

Sanson is a jack of all trades that looks like a potential bargain at £15million, so Villa could be chasing a great piece of business.

Once Villa play the games they have in hand on everyone in the division, they could find themselves right around the top four spots of the Premier League.

If ever there was a season to go all out, it’s the one due to inconsistency from everyone.

Villa already have a squad that has improved massively in the past six months and more astute signings like Sanson could really help them launch a European bid.
