Aston Villa have reportedly joined Newcastle United in the race for Alessio Romagnoli.
Corriere dello Sport – via Sport Witness – claims the Villans and the Magpies have both made the AC Milan captain an offer.
Villa have already bolstered their defensive ranks this summer by signing Diego Carlos from Sevilla.
Meanwhile, Newcastle are reportedly closing in on Lille’s Sven Botman.
Nonetheless, it looks as though both clubs are looking to bring in more defensive reinforcements.

And with Romagnoli becoming a free agent at the end of the month, he’s certainly worth a try.
The Milan captain’s contract expires this summer and he looks set to move on.
Lazio are apparently eyeing Romagnoli, but Corriere claims Villa and Newcastle have stepped in.
Both clubs have reportedly made the 27-year-old ‘tasty’ offers of €4million per year, or around £66,000-a-week.
This ‘all-English head-to-head’ has sent ‘alarms bells’ ringing at Lazio, once the favourites to land Romagnoli.
Corriere also claim the player is ‘tempted’ by a move to the Premier League.
And ‘it is only the love for Lazio that keeps him anchored to the dream of playing for them’.
That being said, he won’t do that ‘under any conditions’ – the money must also be right for him to join.
And given Lazio’s ‘very last proposal’ will reportedly be £46,500-a-week, Villa and Newcastle may just have a chance.
