Report: Aston Villa eyeing Burnley goalkeeper Joe Hart

Aston Villa reportedly have Burnley goalkeeper Joe Hart on their radar for the January transfer window.

The Midlands club have lost number one goalkeeper Tom Heaton through injury for the rest of the season.

According to the Daily Mail, Villa manager Dean Smith has experienced shot-stopper Hart on his radar and is considering hit options.

It is understood that any transfer fee would be “nominal” if the 32-year-old was signed this month, as his contract at Turf Moor expires at the end of the season.

Hart has been frozen out of the team at Burnley this season and his sole appearance to date came in the Carabao Cup back in August.

He’s had to put up with a permanent spot on the bench and be the understudy to teammate Nick Pope.

TBR’s View:

Hart was at one point regarded as the best goalkeeper in England and he earned 75 senior caps for his nation.

The two-time Premier League winner was brilliant during his time at Manchester City, but his career has nosedived in the last few seasons and he’s currently sat on the bench at Burnley.

He would be a high-profile addition at Villa, but his form in recent years suggests they should avoid him despite a potential bargain price.

The £45,000-a-week star (Spotrac) was full of errors in the Burnley goal when he played in the first half of last season and his days in the top-flight are surely numbered.
