Aston Villa are ready to offer Emi Martinez a new long-term contract after the goalkeeper’s representatives were contacted by a top European club, according to a report from 90min.
Martinez goes into his second season at Villa Park off the back of an incredible 12 months in his career.

Martinez got a rare run in the Arsenal side after Bernd Leno sustained a serious injury. His form helped the Gunners win the FA Cup.
It also led to the 28-year-old attracting attention. And ultimately, Mikel Arteta decided to let Martinez leave rather than Leno.
Arsenal’s loss was certainly Villa’s gain. Martinez was an outstanding signing for Dean Smith’s side.

And his performances earned him a place in the Argentina squad for the Copa America. Of course, that tournament ended with his side winning the trophy and Martinez being named its best goalkeeper.
It should probably come as no surprise to Villa therefore, that he is a wanted man once again.
According to 90min, one top European club has approached his representatives.
Villa meanwhile, plan to offer him a new deal. 90min notes that he has three years left on his current terms.
Tying Martinez down to fresh contract could be huge for Villa
Villa have made a bright start to the summer window. And should they manage to keep Jack Grealish, it will be an amazing summer.
But tying Martinez down to a new contract would be the icing on the cake.
He is one of the Premier League’s best goalkeepers. And replacing him would be incredibly difficult for Villa.
So ensuring that he could stay beyond 2024 would be an inspired piece of business.
