Aston Villa reportedly eye two attacking midfielders, but which one is better?

Sky Sports have claimed that Aston Villa are interested in signing Brentford playmaker Said Benrahma after failing to land the Frenchman in the summer, while also targeting Norwich City’s attacking midfielder Emi Buendia.

Dean Smith brought Benrahma, 24, to Brentford in the summer of 2018, while manager of the Bees. He has since scored 13 goals and proved even more effective when creating, laying on an impressive 19 assists in his 59 outings for Brentford.

Villa were interested in the Frenchman during the previous window, but failed to land the Brentford star. But Villa have also shortlisted Norwich City star Buendia, who shined in the Championship last season – having a hand in 20 goals during 38 league games throughout 2018-19.

Buendia has continued to be a creative force despite promotion to the Premier League, laying on four goals in 13 games. The 22-year-old is likely to cost more than Benrahma though, who is valued by Brentford at £20million.

So, which one should Villa sign? The chances are that Buendia is going to cost a lot more given that he is showing he can hack it in the Premier League. But Smith knows Benrahma first hand, after signing him about 18 months ago.

Smith needs to put aside his previous affiliation with Benrahma, especially if they are forced to spend £20million to sign the player. For an attacker to have scored just two goals in 14 games in the Championshiop, £20million is ridiculous.

Villa should spend there money elsewhere and a move for Buendia, even if it is something like £25million, would be an excellent signing. He has impressed in a beleaguered Premier League side, making him a better option than Benrahma.
