Report: Aston Villa could try to sign 'exceptional' 23-year-old as transfer plan is made
Aston Villa could make a move for Norwich City’s Todd Cantwell if they fail to sign Leon Bailey, 90 Mins report.
Villa are chasing Bailey from Bayer Leverkusen and the player apparently feels that the time to move on has now come.
However, doing a deal for the rapid attacker could be difficult for the claret and blues.
That is because Leverkusen are demanding big money for their forward, who would cost Villa over £30 million.
While Dean Smith’s side do have the funds to pull off such a transfer, it may be deemed that he is simply too expensive.
And a move for Cantwell could become an option if that does happen.
Cantwell and Bailey are hugely different players, but both would bring creativity to Villa in different ways.
While Bailey is a direct threat and possesses great pace, Cantwell prefers to operate in tight spaces and has wonderful close control.
Cantwell impressed when Norwich were in the Premier League and went on to help the Canaries earn promotion from the Championship last term, with Chris Sutton calling him ‘exceptional’ (BBC Five Live).
And it seems that Villa are confident that he could be an option to make the step up and join them this summer.
