Report: Aston Villa could make Said Benrahma move as West Ham bid stalls

Aston Villa have been suggested as one of the teams who could act after Said Benrahma’s potential move to West Ham United stalled this week, according to a report from The Telegraph.

Benrahma looked set to be on his way to the London Stadium. As noted by The Telegraph, a fee worth an initial £25 million plus £5 million in add-ons had been agreed.

However, the report claims that personal terms have not yet been arranged. And it is suggested that the Hammers’ attempts to land the Brentford star have now stalled.

Interestingly, The Telegraph adds that Benrahma is braced for rival bids before Friday’s deadline. And it is suggested that the likes of Aston Villa and Crystal Palace could be amongst those who consider making a move.

TBR View: West Ham will kick themselves if Benrahma heads elsewhere

Benrahma is, unquestionably, one of the most talented players playing outside of the Premier League. He scored 17 goals and contributed nine assists in the Championship last term.

He also produced a masterclass against Premier League opposition this season when the Bees knocked Fulham out of the Carabao Cup.

The links prompted a couple of West Ham fans to compare the Algerian with Dimitri Payet. So it would surely be fair to say that it will not go down well with many if he heads elsewhere.

West Ham have reportedly agreed to pay up to £30 million for the 25-year-old. So they clearly recognise just how much quality he could provide.

Of course, it is not entirely clear why the move has stalled. West Ham may be doing all they can to get a deal across the line.

But there is no question that it will anger plenty if Villa, Palace or another side come in and snatch Benrahma from the Irons’ grasp.
