Aston Villa have joined the race for Marcus Tavernier. According to The Northern Echo, Aston Villa will rival Watford and Burnley for Middlesbrough starlet Tavernier.
Middlesbrough face a battle to hang onto Tavernier this summer. Tony Pulis was reluctant to use him too often but he showed flashes of brilliance when he was on the pitch.
Tavernier played 27 games last season, scoring four goals and providing three assists. The 20-year-old is an exciting talent for the future.
He is currently tied down until summer 2021 at The Riverside Stadium. But he could still depart this summer. And three Premier League clubs are potentially lining up swoops.
Among them is Aston Villa, who are hoping to bolster their squad for the 2019/20 campaign back in the Premier League. Burnley and Watford will compete with the Villans and both sides also want Middlesbrough defender Dael Fry.
Meanwhile, Tavernier is also on the radar of German club Bayer Leverkusen. The Bundesliga outfit are hoping to poach the England U20 starlet, who could follow Jadon Sancho’s example in moving to Germany.
Aston Villa have also been linked with Middlesbrough starlet Tavernier’s brother too. According to The Daily Mail, Rangers captain James Tavernier is an Aston Villa target.
The 27-year-old scored 17 goals last season from right-back. Aston Villa could now look to sign both brothers this summer.
