Aston Villa, Leicester City and West Bromwich Albion are among the clubs chasing Sam McCallum.
Coventry City defender McCallum is being scouted by Midlands rivals Aston Villa, Leicester and West Brom, as well as Liverpool, according to The Daily Mail. The Sky Blues face a battle to hold onto the young talent.
McCallum joined Coventry from non-league side Herne Bay in summer 2018. 17 at the time, he was spotted at Jamie Vardy’s V9 Academy. Since then, he has become a regular in the starting line-up for Coventry.
Mark Robins rates McCallum highly and he has taken Brandon Mason’s starting spot at left-back this season. The 19-year-old now has just under 30 games to his name, including 18 appearances this season. He also scored his first goal recently – a free-kick in the FA Cup.
There are a host of clubs pursuing McCallum and scouts are watching Coventry’s games in League One. Coventry have the teenager tied down until 2022 so it would take a decent bid to sell.
With so many clubs checking up on McCallum, Coventry could be resigned to letting him go. The fans will want the club to reject any bids from rivals Aston Villa or Leicester, though.
McCallum has the potential to make it at the top. He is the ideal modern-day wing-back who is already proving his quality in senior football. He is worth taking the risk on.
