Aston Villa and Newcastle United are amongst the Premier League sides interested in signing Emmanuel Adebayor, according to a surprise report from The Sun.
It is little surprise to see either side chasing a striker during the final days of the January transfer window.

Villa will be without Wesley for the rest of the season, leaving Dean Smith with new signing Mbwana Samatta to call upon. Meanwhile, it is a similar situation for the Magpies.
Joelinton has endured a tough first season at St James’ Park. And Andy Carroll, Dwight Gayle and Yoshinori Muto are yet to contribute a league goal between them.

Nevertheless, it would be a surprise if either Villa or Newcastle fans were particularly happy about the latest striker linked with a move.
According to The Sun, the Villans and Magpies want Adebayor, as do Brighton and Hove Albion.
Adebayor is a free agent after a spell in Turkey. The 35-year-old has scored almost 100 Premier League goals having played for four English sides during his career.
TBR View – Adebayor should only be a last resort
The deadline is looming and asking prices are likely to increase. Nevertheless, neither Newcastle or Villa should arguably look at Adebayor as anything other than a last resort.
He will turn 36 next month, so is clearly not a long-term solution for either club.
Smith and Bruce should surely focus most of their attention on other targets for the time-being.
It may be that Adebayor is able to show glimpses of the player he was while at Arsenal or Manchester City.
But you could certainly understand if Villa and Newcastle fans had major reservations about a possible move for the Togo international.
