Bild have claimed that both Newcastle United and Aston Villa are interested in Hertha Berlin striker Davie Selke with the Bundesliga side signing Krzysztof Piatek from AC Milan – but they face competition from three other Premier League sides.
Piatek, 24, is expected to complete a 23million move to Jurgen Klinsmann’s side before Friday’s deadline – despite the Polish star being linked with a move to Tottenham, Chelsea, Manchester United, Villa, Newcastle and West Ham this month.
A move to land the AC Milan striker has started a chain reaction. It is believed that German striker Selke, 25, wants to leave in order to keep alive his hopes to be a part of Germany’s squad for this summer’s 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
Selke is a striker not renowned for his goalscoring prowess, but more for his ability to bring others into play. The 6ft 4in striker has scored 19 goals for Hertha in 84 outings – but he has also created 15 goals. 34 of those matches have been as a sub.
The 15-time Germany Under-21 international is interesting Newcastle and Villa, who are both keen on a striker and were linked with Piatek – but Brighton, Watford and Bournemouth are also keen. He has a contract until the summer of 2022 at Hertha.

TBR’s view – Would Selke be a good signing for Newcastle or Villa?
At Newcastle, Steve Bruce needs a forward that scores goals. He already has a Selke-like striker in Andy Carroll, while Joelinton is one of those forwards that looks to create and contribute instead of being an out and out goalscorer.
Villa, though, need a Selke. While Newcastle have plenty of attacking players combining with Joelinton or Carroll, Villa need a striker to bring in Jack Grealish, Trezeguet, Anwar El Ghazi and others. Selke would be a top signing for Dean Smith.
