Report: Aston Villa and Newcastle among sides chasing Liverpool youngster

Aston Villa and Newcastle United are amongst a host of clubs interested in taking Rhian Brewster on loan from Liverpool this summer, according to a report from Goal.

Brewster’s stock has risen sharply after an impressive loan spell at Swansea City last season. He scored 11 goals following his arrival in January to help the Swans reach the Championship play-offs.

Goal reports that Liverpool are planning to use pre-season to weigh up whether to keep hold of Brewster for the coming campaign.

But it is suggested that the Reds believe that a Premier League loan would be the perfect next step for the 20-year-old. And there are plenty of admirers waiting in the wings.

According to Goal, the Villans and Magpies have asked about Brewster. There is also interest from Crystal Palace, Brighton, Burnley, as well as the three teams that were relegated last season.

TBR View: Inspired addition for Villa or Newcastle

Brewster has shown, particularly during his time at Swansea, that he has enormous potential. He scored a variety of goals for Steve Cooper’s side, demonstrating composure and confidence in equal measure.

He would therefore, arguably be a superb addition for the likes of Villa and Newcastle. Neither club had a player reach double figures for league goals last season.

Of course, Brewster is unproven at the highest level. He is yet to make his Premier League debut for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

But it is telling that so many sides have reportedly registered an interest. And Klopp himself, lauded the striker back in 2019, in comments reported by the Daily Express.

“I love the boy, he is a fantastic player. Why should I play it down?”.

“Rhian Brewster is a top striker, he is a top talent and I have told him already that he has an important role this year — but how important depends on him.”

So it would certainly appear to be a coup if either Villa or Newcastle could sign the forward during the coming months.
