Report: Aston Villa and Everton want 22-year-old PL star
Everton and Aston Villa are amongst the clubs interested in signing Dwight McNeil, but The Sun suggests that Burnley’s asking price could be double what they are prepared to pay.
McNeil is yet to find his best form for the Clarets this season. He has not scored and only provided one assist in the Premier League this term.
The 22-year-old has however, long been considered one of the most exciting talents not playing for one of the division’s traditional heavyweights.
And with Sean Dyche’s men facing a fight to stay in the league, it is probably little surprise that a number of top-flight rivals are interested in a potential move.
The Sun reports that the Toffees, Villans and Crystal Palace all want McNeil. It is claimed that they value the winger at around £20 million.
However, Burnley want £40 million for their prised asset. Clearly, they are not keen to sell him while they look to retain their position at English football’s top table.
Aston Villa must be favourites with Burnley wanting £40m for Everton target Dwight McNeil
It is hard to see any of McNeil’s admirers making a move in this window. Certainly, they will all surely need Burnley to agree to a compromise.
The asking price probably does leave Villa in pole position. They have not been afraid to spend big since their return to the Premier League. However, he would still become their record signing with a £40 million move.
Everton barely spent anything in the summer. Meanwhile, Palace have often found value in signing the brightest prospects in the Championship.
McNeil is quite a rare player in the current Premier League. He is a left-footed winger who likes to get down the line rather than cut inside onto his favoured foot on the opposite flank.
And he clearly has a lot of talent. But he can surely expect to go nowhere this month should Burnley dig their heels in over his £40 million asking price.
