Report: Aston Villa and Everton keen on Weston McKennie
Aston Villa and Everton are interested in Tottenham Hotspur target Weston McKennie, according to Gazzetta Dello Sport.
What’s the story?
The United States international has been heavily linked with a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Most recent reports from Fabrizio Romano have said Juventus slapped a €30m (£26m) valuation on the midfielder.
Sport1 claimed last week the Lilywhites were battling Bayern Munich for the 22-year-old.
However, now it seems the Villans and the Toffees have joined the race for the central midfielder.
Gazzetta goes on to claim the two clubs could try to ‘snatch a discount’ from Juve for the player.
McKennie only joined the Turin-based outfit on a permanent deal back in March after initially moving on loan.
Aston Villa and Everton already stacked in midfield
Over the last few seasons, both Premier League teams have embarked on rebuild jobs.
Aston Villa have spent significantly on their squad, including an eye-watering £143m in their first summer back in the Premier League.
Meanwhile, Everton strengthened considerably last summer, spending upwards of £65m.
Midfielders have been the name of the game for both clubs. As a result, neither Villa nor Everton need McKennie.
Dean Smith already has Douglas Luiz and John McGinn as his two options in the centre of the park. Meanwhile, he has Marvelous Nakamba and Morgan Sanson in reserve.
Carlo Ancelotti went midfield crazy last summer, acquiring both Abdoulaye Doucoure and Allan to strengthen Everton.
They also have the likes of Tom Davies, Fabian Delph and Andre Gomes in reserve.
Any more midfield signings for either club and you would feel it is just a waste of money.
