Aston Villa have come to an agreement to sign Marseille midfielder, Morgan Sanson, in a deal worth up to £15.5m, according to Sky Sports.
The Villans have been chasing a deal for Sanson all week but had so far come up short in their bids to land the Frenchman.
However, Sky now claim a deal has been agreed between the club and Sanson, with the player expected to arrive in Birmingham next week to finalise his move to the Premier League outfit.
Villa have had a fine opening half to the season and are on course to push for Europe. Dean Smith, then, clearly fancies his chances and after allowing Conor Hourihane out on loan, he has moved to Sanson to improve the squad.
Sanson, 26, has impressed over in Ligue 1 in France. He has 41 goals to his name in his career, and can play in the middle or further forward as a number ten if needed.
TBR View: A fine signing to improve Villa further, Sanson should thrive
Allowing Hourihane to move on and then replacing him with someone of Sanson’s quality is a smart move from Dean Smith.
The Frenchman is a proven operator and will bring a lot to the Villa XI. Of course, he’ll need to force his way in but Villa aren’t overpaying here so can afford to give him time.
£15m is nothing in today’s market and all being well, Villa should have got themselves a fine player on their hands here.
