Report: Arteta yelled constantly at Nuno Tavares during Arsenal loss

Mikel Arteta was forced to shout at Nuno Tavares once again on Monday night over his positioning as Arsenal suffered a hugely damaging loss against Crystal Palace, according to a report from Football London.

Tavares came into the starting lineup with Kieran Tierney injured ahead of the game. It was the Portuguese’s first start since that FA Cup tie with Nottingham Forest in January.

On that occasion, he was taken off after 35 minutes. Unfortunately, Monday did not go much better, with the 22-year-old replaced at the break.

He was not the only Arsenal player not at the races, but Tavares was poor. And he made an error before the home side’s second goal in the 3-0 win.

Tavares may have sensed the change coming, judging by how Arteta was reacting to his display.

According to Football London, Arteta was yelling constantly at Tavares as he kept moving out of position – just as he had done at the City Ground.

Of course, the Portuguese was on Arteta’s side of the pitch. So it is not a big surprise that he was under greater scrutiny. But it will frustrate the Arsenal boss that the same problems emerged once again.

Arteta faces tough decision on Nuno Tavares as Arsenal face massive run of games

There will be concerns about how long Tierney is sidelined for. He has not had the best injury record during his time at the Emirates.

Arteta certainly now faces a tough call on Tavares. His form earlier in the season was outstanding. However, he now looks to have no confidence whatsoever.

He may have other options. Cedric Soares can play on either flank, and Granit Xhaka did well enough in the second-half at Selhurst Park.

But it would seemingly be a big gamble for Arteta to start Tavares again with so much riding on the rest of the season for Arsenal.
