Report: Arteta wants 22-year-old Arsenal player sold rather than loaned out this summer
Arsenal want to sell Englishman Reiss Nelson before the end of the summer transfer window rather than loan him out again.
Nelson spent last season on loan at Dutch outfit Feyenoord, helping them to finish third in the league and reach the UEFA Conference League final.
Goal report that Feyenoord want another loan spell for the 22-year-old, but he has just one year left on his contract.
That means that Arsenal would rather sell him while they can still get some money for him, rather than lose him for nothing in a year’s time.
Arsenal want to sell Nelson
Arsenal have been able to agree a contract extension with Eddie Nketiah, who looks set to go into the season as Gabriel Jesus’ backup in attack.
But Nelson does not look close to having the same kind of status or signing a contract extension which would take the urgency out of his situation.
If Nelson is not going to extend, it makes sense to sell him now rather than losing him for nothing in a year’s time after another loan.
Former Gunners and Feyenoord man Robin van Persie is seemingly a big fan of Nelson, who does have ability but has faded from view at Arsenal.
Mikel Arteta is open to having a new winger as Arsenal made bids for Raphinha, but there does not seem to be any prospect of Nelson taking that role in the squad.
In that event, it is better for him to go somewhere permanently, and get his career going properly with regular gametime and some certainty over his situation.
