Report: Arsenal's staff all love 23-year-old Gunners player who Arteta only started 13 times last season

Eddie Nketiah is incredibly popular with Arsenal staff behind the scenes and of course recently signed a new Gunners contract.

As per Transfermarkt, Mikel Arteta only started Nketiah 13 times last season and he was close to leaving to find more regular football as a free agent.

Clubs such as Leeds United and Aston Villa wanted the striker but he has committed his future to the club where he came through the ranks.

And the Telegraph report that Nketiah is a thoughtful player who is extremely popular with the club staff at the Emirates Stadium.

Arteta has placed a huge emphasis on having the right type of characters within his Arsenal squad.

That has led to him getting rid of big names and high earners, often for very little incoming transfer fee, as he pursues his single-minded vision.

Nketiah may have come close to leaving for nothing, but it seems clear that the issue was never his attitude or relationship with club staff.

He just wanted to play football and now it looks like he will be second in command to whichever new forward comes into the club.

That player, as it stands, is most likely to be Gabriel Jesus, who wants to go and be the main man somewhere after leaving Manchester City.

Nketiah will likely have had assurances over his gametime before signing his new contract and when he gets his chances, it is up to him to take them.

He has taken on the number 14 shirt, which comes with huge expectations at Arsenal, but he is the latest in a recent line of Hale End graduates to take on important squad numbers.
