AC Milan have three names on their wishlist as they look to sign a new midfielder during the January transfer window, but Arsenal’s Granit Xhaka is the target that they are most likely to prioritise, according to a report from Calciomercato.
The report suggests that Stefano Pioli is keen to bolster his options in the middle of the park during his first window with the Rossoneri.
And it is suggested that he has three targets on his radar. Calciomercato reports that Napoli’s Allan and Tiemoue Bakayoko of Chelsea join Xhaka on Milan’s wishlist.
Interestingly, the report adds that the Gunners man is the most appealing option. He is said to be a low-cost target, and is likely to be on the move in January.
TBR View – How could Arteta’s expected arrival impact Xhaka?
Calciomercato suggests that Xhaka is on the way out of Arsenal. But it will be interesting to see whether a new manager may feel differently.
It is looking all but certain that Mikel Arteta will take the job (via BBC Sport). And a decision on Xhaka’s future will be one of the issues that he will soon have to consider.
There is always the chance that a surprise name could be a revelation under a new manager. Arteta may be reluctant to shut the door on any player therefore. But Xhaka – who earns £100,000-a-week, according to Spotrac – seems to have some way to go before he convinces the fans that he needs to kept beyond January.
