Emiliano Martinez is still expected to join Aston Villa this summer, but the Express and Star has suggested that his move from Arsenal has been held up by a contractual complication.
The Express and Star reports that Martinez is closing in on a £20 million move to Villa Park. The move will see the Argentinian presumably given the number one spot in Dean Smith’s side.
But it appears that the Villans have had to clear one or two more hurdles than they may have been expecting to contend with.
The Express and Star insists that Martinez is still set to join Villa. However, it is suggested that there had been a complication concerning his Arsenal contract that had held up a move.
TBR View: Martinez could be worth the wait for Villa
It is easy to forget how little Martinez has played at the highest level. He went into this season having made just 15 Premier League appearances during his career.
Nevertheless, what Arsenal fans saw during the latter stages of last season hints that he will be worth the wait for Villa.
He was outstanding in the final weeks of the campaign. And if he can build on that form, he could be an inspired addition for Villa at £20 million.
