Report: Arsenal willing to offload Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Arsenal are willing to sell Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this summer to help fund their move for Chelsea striker, Tammy Abraham.

The Times claim that the Gunners are open to offloading the Gabon striker, who signed a mega-money £350k-a-week deal with the club in 2020.

Aubameyang’s form last season left a lot to be desired, given the amount of money the club invested in him. He scored just the ten Premier League goals, his worst return for the Gunners in recent seasons.

Arsenal are keen to sign Abraham from Chelsea. The Blues are looking for £40m for the England striker, with Roma also in the frame to sign him.

The Bizarre Stadium That BANKRUPTED A Football Club

The Gunners’ stance on Aubameyang marks a stark turnaround for the 31-year-old. Having been the Premier League Golden Boot winner, it seems he has succumbed to a rather rapid decline in the last 12 months.

With the new season set to kick off against Brentford this evening, it remains to be seen if Mikel Arteta will hand Aubameyang a start.

Time for Arsenal to cash in?

There is a strong argument for trying to move ‘Auba’ on. But the age old problem could haunt Arsenal here. Who is going to take him?

He’s on enormous money, he’s past his best – it seems – and he’s into his 30s as well. £350k-a-week simply makes no sense, so if Arsenal can get him playing his best football, that might be the best option here.

Of course, if someone wants to pay the money, then Arsenal are right to consider the striker’s future. But that just doesn’t seem likely.
