The Telegraph have claimed that Arsenal can sign Gent striker Jonathan David this summer, but only if Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette are sold first – in order to guarantee the Canadian ace game time.

New York-born Canada international David, 20, has been in stunning form for top-tier Belgian side Gent – netting an impressive 23 goals in 40 league and cup appearances, as well as creating 10 more in assists.

Little surprise then, that clubs all over Europe have come calling despite the global health crisis. Arsenal are one of many, but David is said to be keen on a move to the Emirates. However, a deal will only go through if two leave.

David, who scored 14 last season, will only consider a move to Arsenal if Aubameyang and Lacazette leave. Understandable, given that if he joined while the Arsenal duo were still there, his game time would be limited.

Italian outlet CalcioMercato recently claimed that interested parties would have to splash a figure in the region of £22.5million to sign David. Certainly, the Canadian goal machine is worth such an outlay.

TBR’s view – Is David good enough to replace Auba and Laca?

Right now, no. But he is showing just as much potential as the aforementioned duo. To have only turned 20 in January, but to have scored 37 goals in 83 senior outings at a decent level in Belgian football, is eye-catching.

Not only have his goals come in Belgium. Three of his 23 strikes this season have come in the Europa League, scoring a brace against St. Etienne in the group stage and one against Roma in the knockout rounds.

Keeping Aubameyang is crucial, keeping Lacazette would be decent, but if one or both leave, David must be signed.
