Arsenal transfer: Gunners linked with Lazio man, will offer Lucas Torreira in swap

Arsenal are keen on signing Lazio forward Joaquin Correa this summer. It’s thought that the Gunners could also be prepared to offer Lucas Torreira as a makeweight in any deal.

According to Sky Italia, via TeamTalk, Arsenal are keen to land the £42 million-rated star during the transfer window. He also has other clubs vying for his signature, including Tottenham.

Lazio’s valuation may prove problematic for the Gunners though. As a result, they are preparing to offer the Uruguayan as a sweetener in the deal.

The Serie A club only paid £12 million for the Argentine player. Their valuation means they hope to recoup a significant profit should they sell the 26-year-old.

Correa is a versatile performer. He enjoyed a brilliant 2020/21 campaign, scoring 11 goals and registering six assists. The Rome-based outfit utilised him as a No.10 and as a centre forward during the season.

Torreira spent time on loan with Atletico Madrid during 2020/21. He made 26 appearances, but struggled for a regular spot in Diego Simeone’s title-winning team.

Arsenal are in the market for new creative players. Correa would bring a clinical element to the final third, whilst he also possesses a creative spark.

Correa swap deal makes perfect sense for Arsenal

The six-cap Argentine arriving at the Emirates Stadium, would be viewed as an exciting addition. He shone in Italy and he’d certainly give the Gunners something else in attack.

Martin Odegaard was viewed as the club’s top target; although landing him could be tricky this summer.

With that in mind, other targets will need identifying. The beauty of this potential deal is that Arsenal would get a player collecting £75,000-a-week away from the wage budget.

The Gunners would also be getting the better player out of the deal. Torreira struggled in the Premier League and the quicker he’s gone the better.

Correa could thrive in the Premier League. As a result, Arsenal must do whatever it takes to convince Lazio to accept this proposal.
