Arsenal will now have to pay a fee in the region of £35m if they wish to complete the permanent transfer of on-loan Real Madrid star, Dani Ceballos.

The Gunners are big admirers of the Spaniard. Ceballos has excelled since Mikel Arteta came in as manager, playing a crucial role in helping the team reach the FA Cup final.

However, according to Spanish publication Marca (via Sporting Witness), Madrid are hoping to raise a big sum of money for their man, with Zinedine Zidane hoping to see around £30m added to the coffers.

The news could represent a big blow to the Gunners, who had previously been quoted a fee in the region of £22m for Ceballos. That fee, obviously, would be much more manageable given the current financial markets.

Mikel Arteta has been a big admirer of Ceballos in recent weeks in particular. Indeed, just a few days back, Sky Sports reported that the Spanish midfielder was open to staying at the club, citing his relationship with Arteta as a key factor.

While Arsenal will have to be careful with their spending this summer, there’s no doubt that Ceballos has shown exactly what he can bring to the table in recent months.

It makes sense, then, for Arsenal to pursue his signature, rather than spend on someone who might not succeed.

But money is bound to be tighter than usual. Arteta is hoping for backing from Stan Kroenke and co but knows he might not get the amounts he needs.

Hopefully, there is enough in the pot for Ceballos to arrive. Despite the obvious increase in price from Madrid.
