According to a report from the Daily Mail, Arsenal have identified Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Nuno Espirito Santo as a potential target as pressure continues to mount on Unai Emery.
The Mail reports that Emery’s future at the Emirates is being considered on a game-by-game basis. The Gunners are not far off going two months without a Premier League win. And they have not produced back-to-back victories in the top flight since August.
It remains to be seen how much time Emery is given to turn the situation around. But it is perhaps telling that the Daily Mail is reporting that the Gunners are interested in Wolves boss Nuno.
Wolves are flying once again this season. Like Arsenal, they have one foot in the knockout stages of the Europa League. But the Molineux outfit sit fifth in the league, and they have not lost in the top flight since September.
The Mail reports that Arsenal are aware that targeting a manager who is in a job during the middle of the season could prove problematic.
It is noted that Nuno’s agent Jorge Mendes has a long-standing relationship with Gunners’ head of football Raul Sanllehi. But it is not clear whether he would be interested in a move.
Nuno would be forgiven for wanting to stay at Wolves for the time-being. It does feel as though he is yet to take the club as far as he can. They are doing well in the league, and must be optimistic about their chances of succeeding in Europe.
Of course, a time may come further down the line when Nuno feels that it is time for a change. But right now, it may not be a surprise if Wolves fans were not too worried by the reports.
