According to a report from Globo Esporte, Arsenal want to sign South American starlet Matheus Martinelli for around £35m this summer.
The teenager, who is still only 19, is making waves in Brazil and is the latest off a long line of players to be produced by Fluminese in recent seasons.
The report makes reference to the likes of Richarlison and Kayky, who have both sealed moves to the Premier League in recent seasons and it seems Martinelli is the latest starlet to emerge.
Already signed by Nike – per the report – is said to being monitored by the likes of Manchester United as well as Arsenal. However, it is believed the Gunners have already made early contact with regards to wrapping up a deal.
Martinelli, who plays as a midfielder by trade, is no doubt going to be courted this summer. The Gunners, then, it seems are keen to get in there early as they look to secure yet another top looking South American star.
TBR View: Arsenal obviously looking to the future, another Martinelli would go down well
Of course, we know little about Matheus Martinelli but normally these young Brazilian players are worth the fuss.
Martinelli is clearly someone who is valued by Fluminese and they are clearly looking to get a big chunk of change for their man, given the other recent sales of big names.
Arsenal would do well to beat a host of European clubs to landing Martinelli here. United are keen, as the report says, while the likes of Madrid and Barcelona always have a keen eye on South American talent.
