Report: Arsenal want to hand midfielder Matteo Guendouzi new improved contract

Arsenal reportedly want midfielder Matteo Guendouzi to sign a new improved contract at the Emirates Stadium.

According to the Daily Mail, the Gunners are hoping that the 20-year-old pens a new five-year deal with them.

It is understood that the North London club want to increase his current £40,000-a-week contract to a fresh deal worth £70,000-a-week.

The report details that the Frenchman is now worth around £30million due to his development in the first-team.

Guendouzi was signed by Arsenal boss Unai Emery last summer for £7.2million from French second-tier club Lorient and he’s developed into an important senior player.

The defensive midfielder has played every minute of the opening two Premier League games so far this campaign, which have been successive victories over Newcastle United and Burnley.

TBR’s View:

Guendouzi is certainly not the finished article yet, but there is no denying his rapid improvement and Emery is clearly a big fan of him.

He is a central midfield that offers decent cover in front of the defence and is fierce with his tackling.

There is certainly room to grow in terms of his reading of the game and also distribution of the ball, but he is getting better and has a tremendous work-rate.

Guendouzi is currently getting the nod ahead of teammate Lucas Torreira and it shows a great sign of faith to tie him to a long-term deal.
