Arsenal have made an enquiry to Real Madrid regarding the loan availability of Martin Odegaard, according to Sky Sports.
The midfielder is down the pecking order under Zinedine Zidane and the Gunners are hoping to snare him to the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal will face fierce competition for the youngster but Mikel Arteta is a firm admirer of the talented youngster.
The 22-year-old has played just nine times this season with over half of those appearances coming off the bench.
Last season the attacking midfielder excelled at Real Sociedad, scoring seven goals and claiming nine assists during 36 outings.
Odegaard has managed just 11 appearances for Los Blancos since checking in as a teenager in 2015.
The youngster typically operates in the No.10 role and that’s an area clearly identified for reinforcement by Arteta.
Emile Smith Rowe has played superbly well of late but he is capable of operating out wide if called upon.
Nonetheless, Arsenal need more option in their attack and have now identified Odegaard.
The talented midfielder has 25 caps for Norway and widely regarded as Europe’s top wonderkid as a teenager.
Arsenal won’t be blessed with a huge bounty of cash this month and adding the £85,000-a-week Odegaard on loan could prove a decent addition.

If the transfer window was to close with Arsenal offloading Sokratis, Mesut Ozil and Sead Kolasinac, with Odegaard the only addition, it would represent a decent window.
The challenge for Arteta was always going to be clearing the decks and it’s a case of so far, so good in that sense.
Odegaard is set for a really bright future and he’s got the attributes to take the Premier League by storm.
Despite a young career, he has two Champions League medals from the 2015/16 and 2016/17 campaigns.
In San Sebastian last season he showcased a superb range of passing, a creative spark and an ability to weigh-in with a few goals.
This addition would be a signing for the Gunners faithful to really get behind.
