The Sun have claimed that Arsenal are looking to rival Celtic for the permanent signing of Southampton giant Fraser Forster, after the goalkeeper enjoyed an excellent campaign in Scotland.
An outcast at Southampton, 32-year-old Forster returned to Celtic on loan last summer and has since clocked up 39 appearances throughout the season. Forster kept a whopping 17 clean sheets, conceding only 28 goals.
Neil Lennon has stated he will do everything within his power to sign Forster permanently, but Forster’s hefty Saints wages may proved too tall for Celtic. Now, the Hoops gave another obstacle in their pursuit of the Geordie giant – this time from Arsenal.
The Sun claim Emi Martinez May decide to leave the Emirates, in order to pursue first-team football rather than acting as back-up for another season. That would leave Arsenal with just Bernd Leno and rookie Matt Macey. Forster has been eyed to rival Leno.
TBR’s view – Forster would surely prefer Celtic move
A move to Arsenal would see Forster play back-up to Leno, who has established himself as one of the Gunners’ best players. So, Forster has a decision to make – Celtic, Arsenal or chance his arm at Southampton.
A stunning season at Celtic may see Southampton change their mind on Forster – a move that would suit everyone. But the chances are that the Saints will want rid of one of their highest earners.
Arsenal would be able to afford 6ft 7in Forster but would Forster want to play back-up? Celtic is Forster’s best move, but it remains to be seen if Celtic can afford him.
