Arsenal want to keep William Saliba, but are also open to considering offers for the centre-back and have a replacement in mind should he go, with Media Foot in France reporting that the Gunners want Maxence Lacroix.

It appears that Saliba is destined to finally get his chance in North London this coming year. He has been a fan favourite throughout his time on the Gunners’ books. And yet, he has never made his competitive debut.

He has shone out on loan, most recently with Marseille. And unsurprisingly, Media Foot reports that the Ligue 1 side want to bring Saliba back to Stade Velodrome.

Mikel Arteta wants the 21-year-old to stay. However, the Gunners plan to listen to offers for the defender. And they have identified a possible replacement for if he does go. Media Foot reports that Arsenal want Lacroix.

West Ham are also interested in the 22-year-old. And reports suggested last summer that Tottenham were monitoring the Wolfsburg star.

Arsenal fans likely to be divided about Lacroix reports

Lacroix is an incredibly exciting defender with a huge future ahead. In fact, at some stage it would probably be no surprise to see Lacroix and Saliba playing together for France.

However, plenty of Arsenal fans are probably hoping that there is no need to pursue Lacroix. Obviously, it seems that a bid will only be made if Saliba leaves.

And there is real excitement about Saliba and how he will fare in the Arsenal side.

He is an ‘extraordinary‘ prospect who cost the club £27 million. So it would be a real disappointment for many if Saliba now left after such a long wait to see him make his debut.

Lacroix would be a brilliant signing. But the supporters will probably not want him to arrive if it means Saliba has gone first.
