Report: Arsenal want Matteo Guendouzi gone, Gunners have offered him in Thomas Partey talks

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is seemingly wanting to move Matteo Guendouzi on this summer, with The Guardian reporting that the Gunners have offered the Frenchman in part-exchange for Thomas Partey.

It’s the clearest indication yet from Arteta that he has had enough of the French midfielder. The two fell out following the game with Brighton a few months back and Guendouzi has not featured since.

The report claims Arsenal offered Atletico £25m plus Guendouzi for Partey. However, the Spanish giants have apparently rejected the deal. They are, instead, looking to hold out for the Ghana star’s full £45.5m release-clause.

Atletico’s snub could be a bitter blow for the Gunners. They were hoping to use a few players this summer to save spending enormous transfer fees.

Guendouzi, who earns a reported £40k-a-week at The Emirates, would have been seen as the ideal makeweight in the eyes of the Arsenal board and management.

But it could now be a case of ‘back to the drawing board’ for the Gunners as they seek to finally land Partey.

It seems that not as many clubs are quite as keen on young Guendouzi than Arsenal might have hoped.

They would have been hoping the mere mention of him in any deal would have been enough to sway the La Liga club but, alas, Atletico is having none of it.

Arsenal is seemingly desperate to land Partey. They’ve been linked with him for a number of months now and it looked at one point a case of when and not if.

However, this puts a spanner in the works and will be of concern for Arteta just days after the season finished.
