Arsenal are considering making a move for either Ollie Watkins or Dominic Calvert-Lewin as they prepare to lose Alexandre Lacazette at the end of the campaign, according to The Sun.
What’s the story?
Lacazette’s £180,000-a-week deal at the Emirates expires next summer. The Frenchman has played more of a peripheral role for the Gunners so far this term.

The Sun notes that he could be sold in January. However, Arteta will want a replacement in. And Arsenal have no plans to go big in the winter window.
But it certainly appears that they will be looking to make a statement next summer.
According to the report, both Calvert-Lewin and Watkins are on the club’s wishlist.

It is noted that the Everton star would cost more than £50 million. Meanwhile, Villa reportedly spent £28 million to sign Watkins. And his value will have only increased.
Interestingly, the report does claim that the club plan to back Arteta with the funds for someone who can rival, and then replace, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Arsenal signing Calvert-Lewin or Watkins would be an incredible statement of intent
It is currently hard to see Watkins or Calvert-Lewin leaving their respective clubs.
Arteta still has a lot to prove at the Emirates. Meanwhile, both Everton and Villa have shown some incredibly promising signs in the Premier League this season.
And clearly, they would both command huge fees.
So it would be a massive statement from Arsenal. Both players have been outstanding performers – with 30 Premier League goals between them last season.
Having said that, the supporters will be expecting the Gunners to do something special if they are looking to replace the likes of Lacazette and then Aubameyang.
