Arsenal reportedly want to sign Saint-Etienne defender William Saliba this summer.
Goal understand the Gunners are keen on the 6ft 4in centre-back, who has impressed for the French club in his first season as a professional.
18-year-old Saliba has made 17 appearances across all competitions, and is apparently now a top target for Unai Emery.
Apparently Gunners scouts have watched the teenager extensively this season and been impressed with his ‘maturity’ for one still so young.
Goal claim it could take around £25 million to sign Saliba, who only signed a new deal with the club last summer.
By all accounts Saliba is a highly promising young player.
The France U19 international recently stood out against Patrick Vieira’s Nice side, and appears to possess all the attributes that could make him a success in England.
Former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has previously likened Saliba to Kurt Zouma, who also started out at Saint-Etienne. And football.london state there have also been comparisons to Real Madrid star Raphael Varane.
Arsenal’s fragile defence certainly needs beefing up – the Gunners conceded an alarming 51 goals in 2018/19 and Saliba could be the kind of physically imposing player they need in their backline.
