Report: Arsenal unlikely to offer new deal to Alexandre Lacazette

According to The Telegraph, Arsenal are unlikely to offer a new contract to Alexandre Lacazette as he prepares to enter the final year of his current deal.

The French striker has rediscovered some form during 2020/21 and his 17 goals have led to some speculation that he might earn an extension at the Emirates Stadium.

Now though, that seems unlikely, with Arsenal viewing this summer as the last chance to cash in on their talisman. At 29 and on the back of a strong season, interest is likely to be rife.

Atletico Madrid have tried to sign him in the past, whilst Roma have also been linked with a move for the international performer.

Lacazette earns £180,000-a-week at Arsenal, making him one of the club’s top earners. With the Gunners likely to be busy this summer, getting such a wage off the budget would be ideal.

The striker signed for the North Londoners in 2017 and has had his fair share of criticism since he checked in. Despite that, he’s still found the net 65 times in 169 appearances for the club.

TBR View: Lacazette must be replaced

The striker might have been inconsistent at times during his days at Arsenal but this season he has performed really well.

As a result, letting him go represents a risk and Arteta must make sure he has something up his sleeve.

Eddie Nketiah hasn’t been utilised and he could also leave in the summer, leaving Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and the untried Folarin Balogun as the club’s only two strikers.

With that in mind, Arteta must act quickly to secure a replacement if Lacazette is allowed to leave this summer.
