Report: Arsenal undecided on whether to sanction Cedric move to Fulham
Arsenal are yet to decide whether they will allow Cedric Soares to leave during the January transfer window, with the Evening Standard reporting that talks with Fulham over an initial loan deal are ongoing.
Cedric has been linked with a move away from the Emirates for a little while. The Portuguese has only played a peripheral role for Mikel Arteta’s men this season, featuring in just two games in the Premier League. He is also yet to make a league start for the Gunners this term.
There has been interest in the 31-year-old. Reports from Tuttomercatoweb claimed that Fulham, Atletico Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen all wanted Cedric. And actually, his agent had spoken to all three of the clubs in the running.
Arsenal yet to decide on whether to sanction Cedric move to Fulham
It seemed that Fulham were ready to win the race. According to 90min on Wednesday, the Cottagers were closing in on agreeing a deal for the former Southampton man.
The Evening Standard suggests that a loan move with an obligation to buy is looking likely. However, they add that Arteta is yet to make a decision on whether Cedric will be allowed to leave next month.
Cedric is someone who is capable of playing on both flanks. And he also appears to be an important member of the group. He has proved to be a ‘fantastic‘ signing given the costs involved.
But the Gunners do have real depth in both full-back roles. Ben White has been a revelation on the right this season. And Takehiro Tomiyasu has been a superb signing.
Meanwhile, it says a lot about their depth that Kieran Tierney has struggled so much for game-time this term.
If Cedric is an important figure behind the scenes, Arteta may be wary of letting him leave when Arsenal are flying. He is someone who is always going to be pushing those ahead of him in the pecking order.
So it is not a surprise that Arsenal are not rushing into a decision.
