The Mirror have claimed Arsenal are interested in reigniting a move for Real Betis star Nabil Fekir in order to replace Dani Ceballos, who looks unlikely to agree a permanent move to The Emirates from Real Madrid.
Fekir, 26, came within an inch of joining Liverpool last summer but a move collapsed at the final hurdle. Arsenal were also interested, but were some way behind signing the France internatonal – who eventually moved from Lyon to Real Betis.
Since joining Spanish side Betis, Fekir is yet to show what he is capable of – though he has scored seven goals and created six more in his 22 La Liga appearances. He has a contract with the Spanish side until the summer of 2023.
Ceballos has seemingly failed to earn a permanent deal and the report claims the Spain international is due to return to Zinedine Zidane’s Real Madrid side in the summer. Fekir is being eyed as the Spaniard’s replacement.
TBR’s view – Price is key in signing Fekir
TalkSPORT claim Betis signed Fekir for a bargain £17million last summer, but the Spanish side are likely to want more than that given Fekir has had a decent first campaign in La Liga.
If Arsenal can sign Fekir for a fee of £30million or less, then it is excellent business for the ex-Lyon star. But anything over such a figure and it turns into an expensive move with little reward. Nicolas Pepe cost £72million, and such a big-money fee needs to be avoided.
