Arsenal could be about to offer a new contract to midfielder Reiss Nelson before allowing him to move out on loan this summer.
That’s according to The Athletic, who suggest Nelson is line for fresh terms as part of Mikel Arteta’s summer overhaul.

Nelson drifted down the pecking order somewhat last season despite initially showing promised under Arteta. The midfielder had impressed the Spaniard, with the Gunners boss terming him a ‘special player’ in 2020.
Despite this, Nelson’s appearances have been limited. However, the Gunners still see a future for the 21-year-old, and will look to tie him down to a new deal before allowing him out on loan.
Playing time needed
Nelson is among a group of Arsenal players who need minutes in the coming season. If he sticks around and doesn’t get used, he risks becoming stagnant.
Like fellow youngster Eddie Nketiah, Nelson finds himself at a crossroads.
He has two years to run on his current deal. But just two PL appearances last season will concern Nelson on a personal level.
Plenty of suitors
There is no doubt Nelson is a talented player. He’s done well in the Europa League at times and can play multiple positions.
Nelson will also be heartened by how well Joe Willock did on loan. If he can replicate that, then it’s a win-win all around for everyone.
But it seems Reiss Nelson will need to pen that new contract first. Only then, will the Gunners allow his next move.
